Recently, I was watching an episode of WWE Monday Night Raw. My wife was watching with, she doesn't normally, it's just not her thing. She doesn't care if I watch, but she doesn't join in regularly. She will sometimes watch, but mostly when I have people over to watch the PPV's on WWE network for just $9.99.
As she watched Monday Night Raw. The Legend Mick Foley comes out in his current garb and plays his current part as GM of Raw. My wives response to him, although I'm positive she had seen him before was a surprise.
"Who is this Hairy man with all that Hair everywhere and why is he in charge?" Now my first reaction was to get irritated because that's Mick Foley she's talking about. Mankind, Catus Jack, Dude Love. Then I remembered. She's not a Wrestling fan she doesn't know. She isn't purposely insulting the legend of the sport. She might even be genuinely asking "Who is this Guy?" So I give her the benefit of the doubt and ask her. Do you want me to show some of his past stuff.
"Sure, I guess" she replied.
I go right for it. The one moment that everyone knows sets Mick Foley Apart from everyone else.
King of the Ring 1998. Hell in a Cell. Against The Undertaker. The good ol' "MY GOD HE'S BROKEN IN HALF"
I skip the build up video and go right too his entrance. ( I Secretly despise the video buildups, It's a waste of every single real wrestling fans time. We don't need the build up, we've already seen it. If someone hasn't seen it, they don't need it, because they don't care.)
Mankind walks out.
"Huh, he wears a mask. Must be to cover up all that hair" she comments, totally oblivious to whats about to happen.
"Mankind, that's what he called himself?"
"Amongst other things." I reply
"He looks like he doesn't know what he's doing."
"Why is he climbing the cage."
"He's fighting The Undertaker? I thought The Undertaker was one of the biggest names."
"The Undertaker is huge. 350Lbs, that so big"
I went on to tell her when I met him when I was 12 and he is such a huge person. I'll skip that convo. and go straight to when The Undertaker gets on top of the cage.
"OH MAN!! the almost fell through there, that's so dangerous, they could of been hurt." (When they are walking on top of the cage and part of it breaks in a corner.
Then...
As Foley gets tossed off the top. She jumps to the edge of her seat with her Jaw dropped. Her mouth is wide open. It stays that way as they show the fall from several angles. Her eyes can't believe what she saw. She looks at me astounished.
"Well, obviously he lives because he is on Raw now, but is he ok?"
"There is NO faking that, that hurt, I hope he is ok."
A few minutes pass as Foley Sells it or recovers. The Jury is out on what was really happening. My guess is a little of both.
"NO WAY!!!! HE'S STILL GOING!!! NO NO NO, don't go back up there. OMG!!!! he went through again!!!!"
She couldn't believe it. As Foley starts to finally put up a fight, I say "check out his nose"
"What is that?"
"His tooth"
"How does that even happen"
"I guess two 20 foot falls in the matter of 10 minutes"
"Ok, Ok, I get it. I understand why he is on Raw now."
We finish the match in typical fashion. She is now a Mick Foley fan.
This happened on 9/13/2016, which I realize is a Tuesday, I have to watch Raw on Tuesday night with Hulu because we don't have Cable.
