Movies. 71-75

Breakdown. I watch 100 movies a year. I blog about them. Currently on 2012 movies. The only thing that qualifies the movies as watchable is that I have not seen them before. Which means any era, any movie. On with the movies.

(71)Piranha (2010)
Pretty classic Horror type film. It has all of the classic horror film build ups. Monsters, yes. Naked girls, yes. Kids, yes. Big massive dude going ape poop, yes. You can go on and on about how well done the movie is as what it is. It touches on every aspect of bad horror films from the 70's and 80's. It would have been better if they would have made the piranha's like normal real Piranhas's it would have been a bit more terrifying. It's what made Jaws so good. It wasn't that he was relentless, its that he was real. I liked a few things about the movie. Unfortunately the one thing I didn't like were how the fish looked. It ruined the movie and killed the rating. I did like the kids and how stupid they were and their stupidity is why they all died. That was not only important to the way the film felt, but took it away from the Horror feel and into the Horror/comedy feel it ended up with. This movie went overboard with a few things that lowers its overall score. The first thing is the nudity. I got the point after the first 30 seconds. after the first two minutes it would have satisfied even the worst viewers of movies like this. So exactly why did it need to go on so much longer. It looses points. Some of the over the top non sense was needed, but to continue that for the better part of the movie took away from the effect. Very seldom do you get the perfect feel down for this type of film and you go to heavy on one thing and not the other, for instance focusing on the kids dying and the brother on a porno boat really pushes the film forward so much that it falls flat on its face. 1. 4 out of 5.

(72) Capote (2006)
I have wanted to see this for a while. Truman Capote a journalist sets out to explore a murder in Kansas. This was the Journey the the Journalist took with the murderer and their strange and intense relationship. First off Phillip Seymour Hoffman changed his voice for the film. The real Truman Capote's voice wasn't anywhere near as annoying and high pitch squeal like the Hoffman portrayed. I watched several Youtube videos to be able to say this statement. The story itself just wasn't that interesting. I felt that the Capote character was pretentiousness and arrogant and really just needed a good beating. Kind of how I feel about Liberals today. I said it. Not all liberals just a handful that vote for silly reasons, for instance they voted for obama because they thought "the mormon" president would take away their right to drink coffee. Idiots. Capote reminded me of an entire group of people that I can't really talk too or even relate with. The story wasn't that great, it ran too long. This movie was made for the academy not for movie watchers. 2.1

(73) Cabin in the Woods. (2012)
Some background information on this. Most importantly Joss Whedon directed it. I had been told nothing about it. It didn't do well in the theaters around Roanoke. The Trailers looked stupid, but I had to watch it. This was the End of a horrible day however. It was moving day. The night before we were packing in Roanoke. I packed the entire truck basically by myself. I had the help of two friends for 1 hour and they basically helped me with the boxes. which was a relief. Then another friend showed up to help for about 45 minutes. After all of that cleaning was left along with a little bit of packing left to do. I slept for about 2 hours. Anne didn't sleep at all. Not a wink. After three days of packing and a full night of zero sleep. Anne wasn't alive after unloading the truck and setting up stuff. The Help in North Carolina was a lot more substantial. My dad and cousin Kenny both came down to help unload. We were also joined by my Number 1 and 2 partners in crime Dustin and Dane. These guys watched the movie with me. They were just as blown away as me. This movie was one of the best films I have ever seen. It has such a wonderful plot turn that is impossible to see coming until it's put in front of you. It's a classic horror film at first with hot guy and hot girl with hot sex. Pot heads and rampaging hormones your typical stuff. Then it changes. A lot. A whole lot. I'm not saying a word more. Watch it. 5 out of 5.

(74) Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengence (2011)
Ghost Rider is a great series in the comics, they can touch the dark side and make fun of themselves. I liked the first film. I think the special effects are relatively alright for what it is. A low budget Marvel film. Marvel spends so much on their big series the little guys get left out in the cold to fend for themselves. Of course Nick cages overacting didn't lend a hand and never will to this series. Therefore it's numbers aren't that high. I will have to say that they continue to do an alright job with the special effects, if they just had an actual writer it might not be as bad. Maybe with all of those writers at marvel they should have spared one to write the movie. 2.2.

(75) 50/50 (2011)
I watched this with Anne, She can tell you she didn't like it but all the laughing she did all the way through it makes me feel like she might be lying. The part where the Rogen calls out the girlfriend we had to pause the movie so she gather composure. It's a really sad movie. Really sad, heartwarming, not expected, but there. Gordon-Levitt and Rogen give great performances and the movie really flows well, the disease and the mother are great driving factors throughout and the hilarity from Rogen is great. He also gives us a heartfelt character with lots of flaws that you don't expect to see coming. It's a stand out film and earns it's 4.3 out of 5 rating.
