Movies of 2011, 6-10.

So A yearly goal of mine is to watch 100 movies I haven't seen before. New movies to me not to everyone. Just movie's I haven't seen, that I should have or have been told I must see. Please refer to Movie's 2011 first post for basic rules of rating and reviewing the movies. Basically 0=worst 5=best. Not complicated. 4= is good. 3= average 2=skip 1=bad. So on with the movies then.

(6) Frozen (2010)
I really wanted to see this. James Slagle had mentioned it in passing so I looked up the trailer on Youtube. Here's the deal. It's a horror survival story. I forced Anne to watch it with me. she wasn't thrilled that I wanted her to watch it with me. She watched it, She even halfway enjoyed the beginning. It wasn't until the the protagonist showed up in their gang that she decided she hated it. At that point I realized, I in fact liked it. We discussed in length how would we get out of this predicament. The movie actually did a wonderful job of going through all the options we came up with and why they wouldn't or couldn't work. I thought it was done really well. The ending wasn't typical it wasn't the greatest movie I saw all year. It had it's issues, probably do to budgeting. The lines weren't exactly executed well. I am not even sure some of the actors had even been on camera before. However, it wasn't bad enough to detract from the movie. It may have just been bad writing. So I can't fault the Actor's for that. 4 frozen snot strands out of 5.

(7) Serious Moonlight (2009)

Anne wanted to watch this. It was a fun a quirky twist on the romantic comedy. This is one of those movies that have a lot going for it, but it is a romantic comedy in the end. Things just keep going downhill for the characters in this movie. The classic bad to worse to unmentionable to amazingly happy transitions. Completely predictable outcome. With this being said. There was some saving grace along the way. The little things were there. Ryan and Hutton had decent chemistry throughout. Kristen Bell brought herself to the party, and not much else. I have never been impressed with her. Justin Long was in this movie. I think he is funny, this wasn't his best work. I think he needed money and took this. Now that I have gotten the bad things out let me focus on some of the better things. The story although predictable, was well played out. It never let down, the pace was good. Which by the way isn't noticeable for most romantic comedys. This movie wasn't boring, It was border line exciting. Exciting isn't a typical word for a romantic comedy. The storyline was well done, not over the top, but just good fun. The Comedy side was light hearted laughter, no gut busters. It wasn't bad, it wasn't amazing either. So 3 out of 5

(8) Valentines Day (2010)

This is one of those Star Studded movies with several plot lines that eventually cross paths. The main path in my mind was the Ashton time line. It was the sweetest and had the best outcome. Cooper's was fun and it ended well. I liked some of the other one's but none stuck out as heavy as Ashton's. He isn't the top name in the movie, but like most things that he is involved in he stole the show. I am not positive everyone would like this movie, but I have to say it was one of the best mash up movies I have seen. Some really cute parts as well with the kids involved. It really made the movie. 4 out of 5.

(9) Toy Story 3 (2010)

Toy Story 3 was great. I have loved this series from beginning to end. This one didn't let down. I really liked it. It was depressing, but such a great story. This movie didn't really remind me that I was watching a kids movie. I was just blown away by this one. Great action scenes. Mr. Potato head was great. There were scenes that made you laugh. Then Their was the scene in the dump. I cried. No. Not Cried. I wept deep. I had a good hard cry during that scene. I really honestly thought they were going to end the movie this way. It could have ended that way. It was completely possible. Thankfully it did end in a good way. Their was a ton of good in this movie. A perfect ending to a perfect series. This was a perfect movie. It had great bad guys, good horror. Loss, and Love. The ending. It was great. 5 out of 5.

(10) Kings Speech (2011)

Anne drug me to this. I had not heard anything about it. She just said that she really wanted to see it. I gave in and we went to see it. Anne put it best. Sometimes you go to see movies and you say that was a great movie but every now and again you go to the movies and you see a great film. Kings Speech was a film. It was in a different class than other movies. This was griping. True. Touching. The Acting was above the bar. Reset the bar. Colin Firth was everything that the character needed. He did the King Justice. Geoffry Rush was great and inspiring. This movie is well known, and for good reason. The setting was spot on. The story was intriguing and you caught yourself pulling for the characters. When you heard the record play you choked up. With the speech you cried. With the frustration you felt frustration. It was a very affectionate and very moving. Sometimes a Film leaves you with a feeling that you know the people that were in the movie. The Degree this film was at is far beyond anything that I had seen in a very very long time. If you haven't seen this. You are missing out. 5 out 5.
